There are a million ways to express ‘money’ in English, and the Spanish are no different. Spain and Latin America have a fantastic collection of slang words and phrases to describe money, here are a few to try out next time you pop to the tienda

apalear oro – be made of money
apretarse el cinturón – tighten one’s belt; economize
no abrir la bolsa – be tight with money
forrado – rich; loaded; rolling in it.
plata – money; cash.
pavo – money; cash (lit.: turkey!)
pasta – money; cash (yes this means pasta too!)
tacaño – stingy; cheapskate; tight-fisted

So if you’re a little short on the pasta (money!) then we have some great value Spanish courses in Granada or learning Spanish in Seville won’t break the bank either!
