Quick Guide to Choosing a Language School

Languages

If you are considering taking a language course overseas… use this quick guide to choosing the right language school for you:

1. Check the group size

Some schools can appear very reasonably priced but this is typically because the group sizes are larger meaning you’ll get a lot less out of your lessons.  All courses on GoLearnTo.com have a handy icon showing how many in each group helping you to easily spot the smaller groups.

2. Check the total hours of tuition

Almost all language schools offer standard courses with 15 or 20 language lessons  per week but not all lesson lengths are the same. Some schools offer 45 minute lessons, some offer 1 hour lessons meaning you could be booking a 20 lesson course but be recieving anything from 15 to 20 hours of tution. GoLearnTo.com show icons against each course that clearly states how many hours of tuition you’ll receive so you know up front, exactly what you are getting for your money.

3. Check the accreditations and quality of tuition

Chain schools with lists and lists of accreditations don’t always guarantee quality of tuition, once you’ve checked you are happy with the group size and lesson length, check you are being taught by qualified professionals.  All language courses from GoLearnTo.com are taught by highly qualified professional language tutors who are experienced in teaching foreign languages to students of all ages.

4. Check the cultural and social extras

Learning a language goes well beyond just words, to really get the most out of your language learning experience you’ll need to immerse yourself in the culture of the country and a good quality social and cultural programme will help you do that as well as encouraging other students to socialise and makes the whole experience more enjoyable.

Check that the language school offers a social and cultural programme and don’t be put off if some activities have to be paid for. Most schools offer cultural lectures (always held in the language you are learning so might be a little advanced for a beginner), films and some organised social events (most with a small charge).  All schools offered at GoLearnTo.com have social and cultural activities on offer helping you to immerse yourself in the culture and also to have a good time with your fellow language students.

5. Check the format of the lessons

A proven way of learning a language is to be completely immersed in it and that’s why the language courses taught solely in the language you are learning (even if you are a complete beginner), yield the best results. For a well rounded linguistic experience you should look for courses that focus on the four main language skills including listening, speaking, reading and writing. All language courses offered at GoLearnTo.com are taught in the language you are learning and focus on the four main skills with the exception of some specialist grammar and conversation courses.

It can be daunting on your first day or two but believe us, this is by far the most effective way of learning the language and you’ll be amazed at how much you learn when taking a language course in the country where the language is spoken as you’ll pick up and practice your skills outside of the classroom each day.
