Go Learn Last Minute: the best spontaneous holidays

ideas_yogaretreat_003pIt’s no secret that there people can get hold of brilliant last-minute holiday deals, and it’s hardly surprising that the number of savvy, spontaneous holiday makers is on the increase.

With 45% of holidays now booked through the internet, the availability and flexibility of online bookings has enabled a trend towards last minute holidays which, according to a Visit England report, increased by 56% in comparison to the previous 12 months.

Last minute holidays

The internet has truly changed everything when it comes to travel, particularly since online bookings really took off, changing the way we research and buy our flights and accommodation.

The ease of access to short-notice holiday deals means we can afford to make our decisions later. The knock-on is not only that holidays are, in many ways, better value, but that we are more adventurous holidaymakers too.

So package holidays in a concrete resort are out, and in their place are flexible itineraries, authentic locations, immersive activities and hands-on experiences.

Learning holidays

It is those with most flexibility who are really taking advantage. Solo holiday makers, especially women, make up a very large proportion of those enjoying our brilliantly authentic learning and activity-based holiday experiences. And many of them sign up to our mix of cooking, language, dance and activity getaways at the last minute.

That’s not to say GoLearnTo’s holidays aren’t for couples or families, but we certainly specialise in breaks for people who want to mix the relaxation and enjoyment of a stay in some of the world’s best holiday locations with experiences and opportunities they will cherish for years.

Here are some of our very best last-minute holidays:

Yoga weekend - Rome, Italy

Only half an hour from Italy’s bustling capital, pursue your love of food and yoga with this long weekend of relaxation that’s guaranteed to relieve you of all your city-life stresses. Arriving on Thursday and leave on Sunday, this trip offers you 90 minutes of yoga practice every morning, giving you every opportunity to explore the gorgeous village of Casperia, an hour north of Rome, and the rural idyll of the Sabina Hills surrounding it. You will return home a new person.

Surfing - Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

Maybe all that peace puts you off and you’re after something exhilarating? If that’s the case then there are few better ways to get away from it all and learning to surf on the surfing paradise of Fuerteventura. The surf-accredited school at Corralejo is an exceptional place to try the sport for the first time, with top-notch instructors and the best equipment available. 1 week self-catering accommodation in a fantastic bungalow (no low budget surf bunks here!) with five days’ tuition will provide you with the grounding to make this adrenaline-pumping sport a staple of your future holiday itineraries.

Horse Riding and Wine Tasting Holiday – Bordeaux, France

It won’t be long until the nights have drawn in and temperatures drop, so enjoy your outdoorsy opportunities while you can. A real favourite of ours is this horse riding break in the gorgeous countryside of Bordeaux. Get lessons and put them into practice on relaxing trails through autumnal rural France.

And no trip to Bordeaux is complete without a liberal dose of wine, and you’ll be taught everything you need to know about the region’s most famous export, as well as make sorties from your renovated 17th-century manor house to local vineyards.
