Course itinerary

Your Greek cooking course takes place in the small town of Vathi located on the beautiful beaches of the Greek Island of Sifnos; the perfect setting for your Greek culinary experience.

This cookery holiday is ideal for both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ cooks everywhere who want to improve their existing cooking skills or learn new delicious recipes which can be easily recreated back home. 

Under the guidance of your host, Diane, and local, professional chefs, you will immerse yourself in relaxing Greek Island life and get off the tourist trail to discover the beautiful island of Sifnos.

By combining hands-on Greek cooking classes with a host of activities, this week long cooking holiday promises to be not just a culinary experience but also a cultural one.

- Suitable for everyone from beginner to experienced cooks
- Minimum age 18
- Please note that this cooking holiday is priced per person for two people travelling together
- If you are travelling independently and require a single room there will be an additional single supplement which can be added during the booking process
- All cooking classes are held in English


Greek Cooking Course Start Date
- This cooking course runs on just 1 date in 2011 in October
- On Saturday you will meet the chef in Piraeus, located approximately 10km from Athens
- You are free to check-in to the accommodation anytime after 2pm before meeting the chef and other passengers at 8pm for dinner
- On Sunday you will take the first boat to the island of Sifnos where your course will begin


Greek Cookery Course Itinerary

Day 1
Saturday – Arrival in Piraeus
- On Saturday you will make your own way to Piraeus; if you are arriving from Athens, a taxi will take approximately 30 minutes and cost around €30
- You are welcome to check-in to your accommodation in Piraeus anytime after 2pm
- You will meet the chef and fellow cooks in Piraeus in the evening for a welcome dinner where you can get to know each other and discuss the week ahead

Day 2
Sunday – Head to the island of Sifnos
- On Sunday morning you will take the first fast boat to Sifnos; on your arrival you will take a private bus to Vathi where you will check-in to your accommodation for the week
- Once you have unpacked and settled in to your room you will have the opportunity to enjoy a light lunch, go for a swim or explore the area
- In the evening you are invited for a delicious dinner at one of the local tavernas

Day 3 – 6
Monday – Friday – Greek Cooking Course
This relaxing and enjoyable holiday has no set itinerary and daily cooking lessons and meals will be planned in a laid-back nature depending on how the group is feeling. All activities and meals are optional and you will be free to join in or, if you prefer, have some time to yourself.

Please note this itinerary is an example only and we ask that you please be flexible as plans may change according to weather conditions and any exciting culinary or cultural opportunities that may arise.

- Each morning you will enjoy a lovely breakfast served on a pretty terrace overlooking the sea
- After breakfast you will head to one of the local Greek tavernas where you will learn to cook and prepare typical Greek dishes and specialities for that evening’s meal
- These hands-on cooking lessons will teach you all you need to know about Greek cuisine so roll up your sleeves and get ready to start cooking
- Menus will change daily to ensure you make the most of your cooking lessons in Greece and learn all about the local cuisine
- After your cooking courses you will have free time to explore the beautiful surroundings of Sifnos Island or simply relax on the beach
- Later in the day you will meet back at the taverna to eat the delicious food you prepared earlier in the day
- The chef has prepared many memorable meals in the past including a whole lamb cooked on a spit and enjoyed on the beach beside the charming white church, delicious lobster lunches and fresh fish soup dinners

Day 7
Saturday – Departure Day
- After breakfast, guests are asked to check-out of their rooms ready for departure via fast boat back to Piraeus, taking home with them new cooking skills and an insight into Greek Island life that will stay with them long after the holiday is over
- If you are planning onward travel or flights after the cookery course, it is recommended that you do not arrange anything for this day as the laid-back Greek Island approach to life can be reflected in the boat schedule back to Piraeus

- Mastelo (Traditional Sifnos lamb dish)
- Briam (Vegetable dish)
- Psarasoupa (Fish soup)
- Courgette filo pie
- Cheese pies
- Chickpea balls

- A range of delicious starters from tsatsiki to eggplant salad


Free Time In Vathi, Greece
- You will have plenty of time to discover the beautiful small harbor town of Vathi on the island of Sifnos
- There are many excellent restaurants and enjoyable nightlife where you can meet the locals
- Take advantage of this stunning location by having a morning swim before your cooking lessons begin in the tranquil sea
- Visit the charming Greek Orthodox church on the beach
- An island bus links Vathi to the small towns of Apollonia and Artemonas, a Venetian fortress and the lively port of Kamares


Accommodation in Greece
Piraeus (1 night – Saturday)
- The 3 star rated hotel accommodation in Piraeus is located close to the port overlooking picturesque Mikrolimano Bay; a perfect location to catch the boat to Sifnos
- The hotels offers 74 guestrooms located on three floors with private bathrooms
- All rooms have air conditioning, balconies, phones, Wi-Fi, televisions and hair dryers
- The hotel has many facilities you can enjoy including a hotel bar, outdoor pool and two restaurants serving Greek and international cuisine

Vathi (6 nights Sunday to Friday)
- Accommodation in Vathi is offered in private houses or above the local tavernas on the beautiful beaches of Sifnos
- You are provided with your own self-contained private double bedroom that comes with a private bathroom and refrigerator
- Many of the rooms have small balconies overlooking the sea, perfect for relaxing on this learning holiday
- All prices are per person based on two persons sharing a double room
- If you are travelling solo, this cooking course makes a great singles holiday and single rooms are available at a supplement which can be added during the booking process
