Whatever your level from elementary to advanced; learning French in Lyon is the best way to accelerate your language learning experience. Immerse yourself in the local French culture and progress rapidly practising your new found skills in your free time.

Combine your French course with learning to cook delicious French cuisine on this French and cooking course in the UNESCO city of Lyon.

You will be taught to speak French by highly qualified native French speakers who have a passion for teaching and use proven language teaching techniques.

You’ll have 2 French cookery lessons; one will be a hands on cooking lesson and the other will involve learning about French food specialities, a recipe demonstration and tasting (please note the content of lessons may vary). You'll also have 1 included dinner in a typical French restaurant to fully immerse yourself in the country’s delicious cuisine, as well as fantastic cookery themed activities some evenings.

Who Are Our Guests?
- People come from all over the world and you’ll never be placed in a class with just English speakers so that you use the language you are learning rather than resorting to chatting in English
- Ages vary, but the typical language learner falls in to the 20-60 age bracket though we have no age limit and we’ve had guests in their 70s and 80s studying languages with us
- During the summer and in university holiday times the average age typically drops and there are many guests in their 20s
- Over 90% of our language learners travel solo and every school organises social and cultural activities to help you get to know others at the school outside of class
- Of course, everyone shares a passion or interest in discovering a new language and culture


French And Cooking Course Start Days
- The school is open year round with a break for Christmas
- French and cooking courses start on selected Mondays throughout the year
- If you book the optional accommodation with this learning holiday, you’ll check-in on Sunday before the course starts


How Will I Learn French?
- Lessons are focused on having fun and classes are highly interactive
- You will focus on the four main language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening
- There will be individual and group work such as role plays and conversation practice
- You’ll also work on developing your grammar in practical contexts
- You will learn with a wide range of teaching aids; language text books, French press, audio/video, French songs or games and each week your linguistic skills are assessed to ensure you are always in the right group for your level
- All lessons are given in French for all levels as this is a proven teaching method that ensures you rapidly progress


What Will I Learn During The Cookery Course?
- Lyon is famous for its wines and gastronomy so this cooking course is perfect for discovering Lyon’s cuisine and traditions
- Cooking courses are held at a the language school in a classroom that is fully equipped your cooking lessons, and cookery lessons on Thursdays will either be held at the cookery school or in the language school itself
- You will learn how to cook from an enthusiastic and friendly local lady who is a wonderful cook and will be sure to show you all you need to know about traditional French food specialities and home cooking
- Each week students are given 1 hands on cooking lesson where you can learn to cook typical ‘cuisine Lyonnaise’ recipes; all the dishes demonstrate simple classic French cuisine which you will easily be able to recreate when you are back home
- To ensure you get the most out of your cooking lesson all classes have a maximum of 6 people
- How to cook and prepare many French dishes
- Learn lots of new French vocabulary
- During the week you will take part in a cooking and gastronomy guided tour of Lyon’s food market where you will discover Lyon’s food specialities and learn about French cooking traditions
- You will also visit a typical French restaurant one afternoon in Lyon which will give you the opportunity to sample the delicious local cuisine (extra charge)
- Depending on the time of year, you may also have the opportunity to visit a chocolate and/or cheese factory (extra charge)

Mousse au chocolat
Beef Bourguignon
Crêpes
Salad dressings
Different kinds of dough that can be used for quiches and pies
Tomatoes provençales
Ratatouille
Criques (Potato crêpes, a speciality from Lyon)
Lentil salad (another speciality from Lyon)


French Course Schedule
- Classes start at 8.30am each day
- Classes run daily Monday through to Friday each week
- You will have 3 group classes per day lasting 45 minutes each
- You will have a short coffee break in the morning


Cookery Course Schedule
- Each week you will have 2 cooking courses lasting on average 1 hour each
- Lessons take place in the afternoon after your French language lessons
- The days your cooking lessons will take place will be confirmed on arrival at the school
- After your hands-on lesson you will sit down to eat the delicious meal you have prepared


Free Time in Lyon
Many people on these holiday courses travel solo as they make perfect singles holidays so the language school organises a host of social and cultural activities each week to help you to get to know your fellow classmates and to integrate you into the French way of life, some activities are free and others have a small charge and may include:
- Guided tours of the historical town centre of Lyon and its museums and galleries
- Tastings of local products, such as, wine, cheese, chocolate and much more
- Excursions to the Alps to ski in the winter months 
- Parties and picnics
- Afternoon trips on the Rhône
- Cinema visits
- Theatre workshops
- You will have plenty of free time to explore the local area and practice your new found language skills or just kick back and relax on this language learning holiday


French Language Level Test
- Please arrive at the school by 8 am on your first day for a short level test
- This test will assess your understanding of the language and will help the course organisers to place you in the right group class for your level


Other information
- We recommend that you take a small French dictionary, pens and paper with you


Optional Accommodation
- This language school offers optional accommodation staying with a local French family to immerse yourself in the French culture and practice your French
- Accommodation can be added during the booking process
