This mosaic making holiday offers a calming creative retreat from the stresses of the outside world, a beautiful location, great food and a chance to not only create a unique piece of art to take home, but also the skills to be able to start a satisfying new hobby that will stay with you long after your holiday is over.

Your tutor Dan is a talented artist who has extensive mosaics making experience and has been teaching for over 5 years. This fun course will provide the environment, materials and guidance so that you can produce your own unique mosaic artwork. 

During the course you will learn the basis of cutting and shaping glass and mosaic tiles. On the course you will be able to complete a mosaic mounted on board for you to take back home to enjoy and impress your friends.

The beautiful and secluded retreat where your accommodation and courses are set is surrounded by almond, lemon and orange trees, sweet scented jasmine and bougainvillea. The gardens are an ideal place to relax in the shade or to take a soothing swim in the private pool and if you like the feel of the sand between your toes you are also just 15 minutes from the fantastic coastal beaches of Murcia.

This is the perfect place to get creative on a mosaic holiday with a difference.

- Suitable for all ages and levels from complete beginners to those with experience of mosaic making and who wish to take their skills to the next level
- Minimum age 16 (under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over)

Solo Holiday?
- These courses make great singles holidays as there are no single supplements if you are happy to share a room (subject to availability)

Mosaics Holiday Start Dates
- Courses run on set dates throughout the year
- Accommodation is for 3 nights
- You’ll have 2 full days of mosaics tuition on days 2 and 3
 

Mosaic Holiday Sample Itinerary
Please note that the itinerary is for guidance only and may change week to week:

Day 1 – Arrival Day
- Arrive and check into your room anytime after 2pm and enjoy the rest of the day to settle in
- Enjoy dinner and drinks at the house in the evening

Day 2 – Mosaic Workshop
After breakfast, you’ll work on your mosaic piece between 10am and 5.30pm with a break for lunch between 1-2pm. Today you’ll cover the following:
- Introduction to the basics of Mosaic Making
- Practice glass cutting, shaping and laying techniques for line, flow and definition
- Health and safety
- Materials and tools used
- Use today to plan your personalised project, discuss and experiment with colour and design under the guidance of your tutor Dan
- Today you’ll start work on cutting and placing your tiles
- Enjoy dinner and drinks at the house in the evening and a chat with tutor Dan to reflect on your work that day

Day 3 – Mosaic Workshop
After breakfast, in the morning you’ll work from 10am to 1pm on the following:
- Continue cutting and placing tiles to develop your own unique piece
- Complete the central motif and start to work on the background of your piece
- Break for lunch at 1pm until 2pm
- After lunch you’ll start to complete the laying of the tiles and allow them to dry
- You’ll start the grouting and fixing introduction
- As the day goes on, the aim is to finish your piece
- At the end of the day, review your project and start to pack up your piece for transport home with you
- Enjoy a farewell dinner and drinks at the house in the evening after your busy day

Day 4 – Departure day
- After breakfast, check out of your room taking home with you new creative mosaic skills that will kick start a hobby for life


Accommodation And Meals
- You’ll spend 3 nights/4 days in a tranquil country house quietly tucked away within bougainvillea shrouded gardens backing onto the pool area
- Inside the house there is a sizeable country kitchen, living/dining room and main bathroom
- Mosaics lessons take place on-site in the art studio
- There is a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi
- Prices are based on 2 people sharing a room with bathroom in either a twin or double room
- If there are 2 people travelling together, you will be allocated in a bedroom together
- If you are travelling solo, you will be allocated a room with another solo traveller of the same sex for no additional supplement (if available) but if you prefer a private room, you can pay a supplement for your own private bedroom which can be added during the booking process
- Check-in is on arrival day after 2pm and check-out is on day 4 by 10am
- All meals, soft drinks and wine are included throughout your stay
- Wi-fi is available throughout the house and gardens
- Your hosts have dogs who are only outside providing the guests do not mind

Rooms available:
- The sunshine room is a large bedroom that can accommodate 4 single beds for group bookings, or twin/double for couples or 2 sharing. It looks out onto the gardens and has air conditioning and en-suite facilities
-The blue room can accommodate 2 singles/ or a double. It looks out onto the garden and has air conditioning and en-suite facilities
- The purple room can accommodate twin or double, overlooks the inner courtyard and has en-suite facilities
- The pink room is a single room overlooking the inner courtyard and has en-suite toilet and wash facilities and shared bathroom

Your Tutor
- Your tutor Dan is a commissioned artist and has been teaching mosaics for over 5 years using his knowledge, enthusiasm and experience to inspire creativity so that others can create their own mosaics to be proud of
- Dan also uses his local contacts and experience to source the best materials available giving you everything you need to express your mosaic creativity


About Mosaics
- The oldest known form of mosaic used clay cones pushed point-first into a wet mud plaster background to strengthen and decorate walls of temples in Ancient Babylon, by the eighth century BC, pebble pavements were being created using coloured stones to produce patterns

Your Mosaic Project
- The course will teach you to create your own mosaic which will fit a board approximately 25-35cm by 25-35cm
- It is advisable to have a design in mind but there is no pressure to decide on your mosaic project in advance
- If you would like to discuss possibilities and designs beforehand Dan is always happy to do so; if you’d like a chat before your course starts, Dan’s contact details will be given to you after booking
- Typically, everyone has time to finish their creation during the course but if you prefer to take your time and if the piece is not finished, you can take this away with you along with the materials you need to finish your piece back home (tile cutters must be purchased separately)


What To Bring / Wear
- All materials for the project are included
- It is recommended that you bring a pair of shoes with covered toes, a long sleeved sweater and sturdy leg wear (such as jeans) for working in the studio
