This bespoke photography course is entirely focussed on making sure you get the most out of your camera and take your photography skills to the next level. What you learn is completely up to you as the course is tailor made to suit your own preferences, and you can even choose which area you’d like to photograph.
Explore the diversity of this wonderful city, discover the hidden plazas, meander through the narrow winding streets, using the unique light to capture the vibrant street life and dramatic backdrop of surreal historical buildings.
Your talented photographer Ben will teach in a holistic style to bring a fresh angle to your course. He will focus on the ‘holistic photography quartet’ which are the four golden rules by which to stand by to take great images – idea, light, composition and timing.

Suitability
- Suitable for all levels from complete beginners looking to learn the basics, to advanced photographers looking to take their existing skills to the next level
- Minimum age 13 (under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult)
- This is a private photography course with 1-on-1 tuition, so your lessons can focus on whatever you’d like to learn and the subject matter you’d like to photograph
Camera Requirements
- The course is focused on digital photography
- Please bring either a DSLR or any point and shoot digital camera you have (it is not necessary to have a DSLR to take this course)
- Please wear suitable footwear as you’ll be doing a lot of walking around the city during your course
Photography Course Start Days
- Courses run every day of the week throughout the year
- Courses start at either 10am and run until 2pm, or 3pm running until 7pm
Photography Course Itinerary
- You will spend 4 hours with Ben exploring the hidden gems of Barcelona and homing your holisitic photography skills
- During the course there will be ample opportunity to sit a while and observe local life to chat with and learn from your photography tutor Ben as he helps you master your camera and develop your creative photography
- Which areas of Barcelona you visit and shoot is entirely up to you
- You can choose anywhere in Barcelona to meet Ben for your course depending on what you’d most like to focus on photographing
- Most photographers choose the Gothic Quarter, but you can focus on any area you wish
- You might also like to visit Gaudi’s Parc Guell, focus on portraiture or shoot architectural masterpieces
- All you need to do once you’ve booked onto the course is email Ben (full contact details will be provided post-booking) and discuss your aims for the course with him and the kind of scenery you’d like to shoot, so that he can plan the perfect course for you
Your Photography Tutor
- Passionate about photography, your British photography tutor Ben will push you to your creative limit during your bespoke, fun course
- He will work hard to ensure that you take photos to be proud of around Barcelona no matter what the subject is
- Ben is an award winning professional photographer and has photographed as far afield as Bosnia and Sierra Leone
- Ben has a deep understanding of the technical side of photography from advanced exposure right through to the darkroom or Photoshop and this depth of understanding leaves him free to focus on the creative art of photography which is his passion
- Ben’s award winning work includes his portrait, landscape, documentary and fine art work
- He has also written and published his successful book ‘Photography, The Few Things You Need To Know’ as well as two more books and numerous articles for photography magazines and website worldwide
- Ben’s camera of choice is a Nikon D2Xs and an antique Hassebald 500cm, both of which have been used by NASA in space!
Aims Of The Course - The Holistic Photography Quartet
- Your course will focus on the ‘holistic photography quartet’ which are the four holy rules by which to abide by to take great images!
- Idea – think about what inspires your photography and what your vision and motivations are before taking your photographs, before moving on to learn about the relevant cultural frameworks
- Light – focussing on colour, strength, character, you’ll learn how to capture effectively with your camera using creative use of aperture, ISO sensitivity, white balance and shutter speed
- Composition – learn how to express and convey your feelings and thoughts in your photographs using selective focus and depth of field
- Timing – understand when the best time to take a picture is and how to capture a movement using panning and techniques to freeze moments in time
