Horseriding-MoroccoHere at GoLearnTo we offer a range of horseriding holidays suitable for total beginners or absolute pros. “Horseriding holidays?” I hear you say, well here are reasons to consider a horseriding holiday for your next trip abroad.

Horse riding enables you to experience your surroundings in a unique way that cannot be matched by walking or travelling by car. Not only do you get the added benefit of a physical workout but it is far more interesting wandering off the beaten track and you gain a completely unique perspective and experience.

Here are my recommended horse riding holidays:

Horse riding and cookery holiday in Portugal

If you’re torn between a cookery or horseriding holiday why not combine the two? This course in rural Portugal offers a unique blend of learning to cook mouth-watering regional dishes and horseriding within Costa Vincentina National Park.

With the tuition of professional chefs you will gain a culinary insight into Portuguese cuisine. You will learn to make traditional bread, cook fresh fish, prepare delicious vegetable dishes and more. This course also offers the chance to try your hand at exhilarating carriage driving or you can stick to the local trekking opportunities through the stunning landscapes.

If you don’t have 8 days to devote to this fantastic holiday then shorter breaks are also available at this location.

Horseriding through the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Spain

This 7 day holiday is based in a Spanish farmhouse near the spa town of Lanjaron where people come from miles around to take the water which is considered the water of life, health and eternal youth.

From easy hacks to challenging trail rides through spectacular surroundings of the Alpujarra hills and Sierra Nevada Mountains, there is something for everyone on this course. On your 4 day trek you stay in a remote mountain cottage, spending between 4-8 hours riding a day. At the end of your trek you have a free day to explore the nearby spa town or relax your sore muscles by the pool.

Shorter 3 and 4 day breaks are also available as well as longer ‘working holidays’ of 14 or 21 days.

Become a cowboy/cowgirl in Australia

If you have always dreamed of living the life of a cowboy/cowgirl then this is the ultimate course for you. Located within a pretty country town in National Parks in New South Wales, this working farm in Bingara has a lot to offer.

Get stuck in to every aspect of farm life from yard work to learning to ride horses, fencing, mustering cattle and sheep and much more. If you decide that the 2 weeks just isn’t enough, there is even the possibility of employment!

However if this course interests you but time is an issue then there are also short breaks available.

Horse riding adventure holiday in Essaouria

My personal favourite is this exceptional adventure holiday in Morocco.

To ease you in gently the first two nights are spent in a luxury boutique Riad whilst you get acquainted with your horse. Beginners have an introductory 1-2 hour tutorial to teach them the basics before setting off to explore the coast whilst the more experienced will ride out for a 2 hour beach discovery.

Day 3 is where your horse riding adventure truly begins. Over the next 4 days you will ride through the famous Argan forests, cantering across sand dunes and galloping across deserted beaches and the nights are spent in a Moroccan tent, camping out underneath the stars.

You will ride through the Berber village of Ghazoua and visit an Argan- Oil producer which produces the famous Argan –oil through traditional methods. This miraculous oil is a cosmetic ‘must have’ and has been used by the Berber people of Morocco for centuries to protect skin and hair against harsh Moroccan weather conditions.

After saying farewell to your horse you will have time to relax or spend the evening exploring the Medina before your final night in the boutique Riad.
