The Azores protect and document craft traditions across different islands. That system is a strong research starting point, not an automatic directory of visitor classes.
A genuine workshop names the island, maker, material and learner task. You might practise a fibre sequence, shape a small object or learn a finishing stage under correction. The first hour should contain more than a product history and a visit to the shop.
Use certification and the regional catalogue to understand which products have protected identity. Then ask whether the maker currently teaches, how many learners can work without disrupting production, and what tools or materials are safe for beginners.
Do not move a craft to Ponta Delgada simply because that is the airport. The exact studio and island are part of the experience, even when no provider card is available.
