The Azores are an archipelago, not a single activity base. Choose the island first. Horta has the clearest sailing relationship, Pico the strongest volcanic walking case, while the regional craft certification system helps identify work grounded in particular island materials and traditions.
Craft needs an island and a maker
Protected Azorean crafts can guide good research, but certification of a product does not prove a public lesson exists. A workshop needs a named artisan, a participant stage and a safe amount of practice. Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo are useful access points for studio research; the exact maker location remains more important than the nearest large town.
Sea and mountain plans stay flexible
In Horta, a sailing course should state taught hours, active crew roles and the harbour or water area. A whale-watching trip is a different product. On Pico, a guided ascent or volcanic walk should teach route, weather and landscape reading as well as lead the way.
Inter-island flights and ferries are not casual transfers in a tight timetable. Weather can alter both transport and lessons. A week is better spent on one or two islands with movable outdoor days than in an archipelago-wide race.
