Horta’s harbour gives sailing an unmistakable local setting. Structured training is available in the city; ask for the next course dates and short-stay entry conditions.
A real lesson assigns an active role: steer to a heading, trim a sail, practise a tack or work through a safety decision. The instructor observes and corrects, then you repeat. Harbour history and visiting yachts add context but do not replace time handling the boat.
Published training hours describe a programme, not necessarily a bookable holiday date. The current start, prerequisites, teaching language, vessel and group size need a direct check. The school should explain its weather plan. Whale watching and inter-island transport are separate bookings.
Horta pairs naturally with Pico, but ferry conditions can affect the plan. Keep course days in Horta and treat island crossings as their own days.
