Peniche’s harbour and Atlantic setting support genuine sailing tuition. The exposed coast also makes conservative instruction essential.
In the first session, expect a safety briefing and one active crew role. You might steer to a heading, trim, handle a line or practise a tack. The instructor corrects your decision or movement and lets you repeat. If guests only watch the skipper, the product is a boat trip.
Ask for the vessel, departure point, instructor qualification where relevant, maximum learners and weather policy. A small group is useful only when each person receives enough turns. Distinguish taught hours from harbour preparation and any sightseeing segment.
Wind and sea state can alter the session at short notice. Keep a movable half-day and accept a shore-based alternative when the instructor judges the water unsuitable. Bring non-slip footwear, check the harbour meeting point and ask about equipment, group size and turns for each learner.
