Arraiolos is the right place to learn about its stitched rugs because the name belongs to a particular local practice, not a generic weaving style.
A beginner lesson should distinguish canvas, wool, drawing and stitch. You might transfer a small motif, learn hand position and tension, make a first row, receive correction and repeat it more evenly. That is needlework; it should not be called loom weaving.
Museum and workshop visits can teach history, pattern and production roles. A retail explanation is not automatically tuition. If there is no current public lesson, the page remains useful by helping travellers ask for a practising embroiderer, a defined exercise and enough seated time to learn without disrupting paid production.
Arraiolos is a manageable trip from Évora, but opening hours and arranged studio access matter. Give the visit its own half-day so the stitch practice can remain unhurried.
